Game Redesign Brings More Value to Players
The New Year marks Powerball´s 20th anniversary and on Jan. 15, 2012, the game changes to offer more millionaires, bigger starting jackpots and better overall odds of winning.
THE NEW POWERBALL FEATURES:
MORE MILLIONAIRES: Three times more millionaires! The MATCH 5 prize will move from $200,000 to $1 million, and with the purchase of the Power Pay option for $1 players will have the chance to win $2 million.
BIGGER STARTING JACKPOTS: Now when someone hits the Powerball jackpot, the new starting jackpot will be doubled at $40 million!
BETTER ODDS: The odds of winning are better! The odds will improve to 1 in 31.85 from 1 in 35 and the odds of winning the jackpot will improve to 1 in 175 million from 1 in 195 million.
NEW PRICE: To deliver these new product benefits, the price of a single Powerball ticket will increase from $1 to $2 per play.
Sales begin for the new game on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, after 4 a.m. The first drawing of the new game will be Wed., Jan. 18, 2012.
Players will continue to play the game the same way: choosing the first five numbers from a pool of 59 numbers and then the Powerball number will be chosen from a pool of 35 numbers, instead of the current 39 numbers. The Power Play option remains at an extra $1 per play.
