POWERBALL JACKPOT NEARS RECORD HIGH
$300 Million Jackpot 4th Largest in Powerball History
Sixteen Powerball draws without a big winner has produced a $300 million jackpot, the fourth largest in Powerball history. Lottery officials expect the new jackpot to have a significant impact on ticket sales in the state.
“Huge jackpots generate excitement, encouraging people who don’t typically play the Lottery to participate in the fun,” said Rollo Redburn, Oklahoma Lottery Commission director of administration. “With all the excitement, we want to remind everyone of two things: first, whether or not a big winner comes from Oklahoma this time around, our schools will certainly benefit from the increased sales, and two, remember to play responsibly any time you play.”
The estimated “lump sum” cash payout amount for this jackpot is $140.3 million and the next draw is Saturday, Aug. 25 at 9:59 p.m.
The largest Powerball jackpot in history was $365 million, claimed in Feb. 2006 by a group of employees from ConAgra Foods Co. in Nebraska. Oklahoma has had two jackpot winners, including a $105.8 million jackpot claimed in June, and a $101.8 million jackpot claimed in Aug. 2006.
Net proceeds of all Lottery games are used to support improvements and enhancements for Oklahoma education. More than $139 million has been contributed to education since November 2005.
