Press Release

Oklahomans Win

Powerball has proven to be a winner with Oklahomans since it was launched one year ago. To date, more than $115 million in prizes has been won, including one hundred ninety eight (198) prizes of $10,000 and above.

From the beginning, Powerball has generated excitement beginning with the Oklahoma’s first drawing held at the International Finals Rodeo. And the excitement continued throughout the year including Oklahoma’s first Lottery millionaire on St. Patrick’s Day and our first jackpot winner of $101.8 million just three months later with the June 17, 2006 drawing. Power Play has proven lucky for Oklahoma as well. Oklahoma’s first million-dollar prize was a $200,000 Powerball prize that was multiplied by 5, because the player selected Power Play for $1 extra when buying their ticket.

The winning continued last night with the January 10, 2007 drawing producing a $200,000 winning ticket sold Oklahoma City at Oklahoma Lottery Headquarters, a $200,000 winning ticket sold in Tulsa, a $20,000 purchased in Lindsay and a $10,000 ticket sold in Pocola.

Powerball excitement is building for Saturday’s drawing. The jackpot is estimated at $155 million or $74.7 million cash value.

“With a jackpot of $155 million, we want to remind players to have fun but to not get carried away,” said Scroggins. “Players should remember to play responsibly.”

With winter weather approaching, the Lottery would like to encourage players to get their tickets early to avoid driving in the bad weather. Also, players should remember that Oklahoma Lottery headquarters will close Monday, January 15 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

In other Lottery news, Friday the Lottery will transfer $6 million to the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund. With the latest transfer counted more than $101 million has been transferred to the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund.

Proceeds from Oklahoma Lottery games are used to support improvements and enhancements for education purposes and programs at all levels of education, Pre-K to higher education.

Since the Oklahoma Lottery launched, more than $139 million in prizes has been won playing Oklahoma Lottery games, said Jim Scroggins, Oklahoma Lottery
Commission Executive Director.
