$1 MILLION POWERBALL PRIZE CLAIMED
Power Play Proves Powerful for Oklahomans
The last week has been a lucky one for Oklahoma Powerball players with three top-tier prizes being won and claimed.
Hung Vinh Duong of Fort Smith, Arkansas claimed his million dollar prize this morning at Oklahoma Lottery Headquarters in Oklahoma City.
Duong purchased his ticket at Freddy’s One Stop in Roland, OK. Because he selected Power Play when purchasing his ticket, his $200,000 base prize was multiplied by 5 - the Power Play multiplier selected.
Duong, who had been playing Powerball in Missouri before the launch of the Oklahoma Lottery, selects his own numbers and always plays at the same retailer. He has come close to winning before. During his Missouri playing days Duong had purchased a 10 draw ticket only to have his numbers matched on the 11th draw which would have made him the winner of a $70 million jackpot.
Duong says he plans to continue working and playing Powerball. As for his winnings, he is going to put the money away for retirement and his children’s education.
Deloris Butler of Billings, Oklahoma also was a $200,000 winner on Saturday but unlike Mr. Duong, she did not choose the Power Play option.
Luck shined on Kenneth Johnson of Midwest City last week as well. Johnson claimed his $600,000 Powerball prize last Thursday. He won by matching the five white balls and his prize was multiplied by 3 because he selected the Power Play option when purchasing his ticket at Mini Sak n Pak at 9615 NE 23rd in Midwest City.
Proceeds from Oklahoma Lottery games are used to support improvements and enhancements for education purposes and programs at all levels of education, Pre-K to higher education. So far more than $101 million has been transferred to the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund.
Since the Oklahoma Lottery launched, more than $142 million in prizes has been won playing Oklahoma Lottery games, said Jim Scroggins, Oklahoma Lottery Commission Executive Director.
