OKLAHOMA CITY (Jan. 29, 2010) — Oklahomans will soon have more ways to win with jackpot drawings four days a week, instead of two. On Sunday, January 31, the Oklahoma Lottery will launch Mega Millions, a multi-state lottery game with jackpots beginning at $12 million.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays and Powerball drawings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Powerball jackpots begin at $20 million.

“We’re excited to be offering a second multi-state jackpot game—and giving our players more chances to win large jackpots,” said Jim Scroggins, executive director of the Oklahoma Lottery. “Mega Millions is a great new addition to our variety of entertaining games that our players appreciate and enjoy.”

At this time, the Oklahoma Lottery does not have a predicted sales forecast for Mega Millions but is anticipating a positive response from players resulting in overall increased lottery sales. As mandated, 35 percent of the Lottery’s sales from Mega Millions will benefit Oklahoma education.

“The Oklahoma Lottery’s first priority is to help support Oklahoma education. By adding Mega Millions, we will keep adding more names to our long list of more than 6.3 million winners,” said Scroggins.

About the Oklahoma Lottery
Net proceeds of all Lottery games are used to support improvements and enhancements for Oklahoma education. More than $313 million has been contributed to education since November 2005 with funds directed to common education, career and technical education and to the higher education capital bond issue through the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund (OELTF). The Oklahoma Legislature appropriates the OELTF.

Proceeds are used statewide to supplement existing funds for a variety of important education purposes, including: teacher compensation and benefits, early childhood development programs, college scholarships, classroom technology and construction of educational facilities.
