HENRYETTA MAN CLAIMS HOT LOTTO JACKPOT
James Nunn Takes Sum of $1.3 Million
OKLAHOMA CITY (July 15, 2008) – Retired National Guardsman James Nunn has claimed the winning Hot Lotto ticket worth $2.1M from the July 2 drawing. Taking the cash option, Nunn walks away with $1.3M and dreams of a new home.
A native Oklahoman, Nunn has spent most of his life in California serving in the United States National Guard. Due to health reasons, he ended his tour of duty and moved to Henryetta, Okla. in 1993 to be near his father and brother.
“I enjoyed the National Guard and the U.S. Veteran’s Affairs has taken good care of me,” said 49-year-old Nunn. “I never imagined I would win the Lottery but I’ve been wondering why I’ve had to deal with so many setbacks and maybe this is why.”
Nunn said he doesn’t get excited about too many things but winning $1.3M is topping the list right now. He is currently recovering from having his appendix removed and should be back on his feet in a few more weeks.
“I’ve already started looking at houses,” he said. “I want to build a new home close to town with a pool. I’ve always wanted a swimming pool.”
Nunn purchased his ticket at the 1st Street Shell at 101 W. Main in Henryetta. As the retailer of the winning ticket, the 1st Street Shell was awarded a $5,000 bonus check as part of the Oklahoma Lottery’s retailer bonus program.
Net proceeds of all Lottery games are used to support improvements and enhancements for Oklahoma education. More than $203 million has been contributed to education since November 2005.
Proceeds are used statewide to supplement existing funds for a variety of important education purposes, including: teacher compensation and benefits, early childhood development programs, college scholarships, classroom technology and construction of educational facilities.
