Oklahoma Education Lottery Reaches $1 Billion in Ticket Sales
More than $350M to Oklahoma Education

Oklahoma City (July 19, 2010)—The Oklahoma Education Lottery marks $1 billion in ticket sales and has generated more than $350 million for Oklahoma education since its launch in 2005.

“We are pleased to have reached the billion dollar mark in ticket sales,” said Jim Scroggins, executive director. “We are even more pleased with the more than $350 million this has provided for Oklahoma educational programs. Each time our players purchase a ticket, they help support education for Oklahomans throughout our state.”

Because the Lottery achieved higher sales than previously projected for fiscal year 2010, the profit transfer to the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund (OELTF) for the year ending June 30, exceeds the amount appropriated by the legislature by $6 million. “This means the legislature will have an ‘extra’ $6 million to appropriate for next fiscal year,” said Scroggins.

The Oklahoma Lottery contributes 35 percent of its gross sales to the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund to help support kindergarten through 12th grade education, and career and technical education and universities and colleges through the higher education capital bond issue.

About the Oklahoma Lottery
Net proceeds of all Lottery games are used to support improvements and enhancements for Oklahoma education. More than $350 million has been contributed to education since November 2005 with funds directed to common education, career and technical education and to the higher education capital bond issue through the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund (OELTF). The Oklahoma Legislature appropriates the OELTF.

Proceeds are used statewide to supplement existing funds for a variety of important education purposes, including: teacher compensation and benefits, early childhood development programs, college scholarships, classroom technology and construction of educational facilities.
