OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – March 1, 2006 – Powerball has added an intriguing promotional twist to Power Play for the month of March. Power Play costs an extra dollar and gives players a chance to multiply their Powerball winning prizes (not including the jackpot) by 2, 3, 4, or 5 times the original amount.
This special March promotion will allow Powerball winners to multiply their original prize amounts (excluding the jackpot) by up 10 times and win up to $2 million for matching five white balls. Here’s how it works:
- The promotion runs from March 2 through March 29, or a minimum of eight Powerball drawings, beginning with this Saturday’s (March 4) drawing
- Because the Power Play multiplier is selected at random during every drawing, there is no limit to the number of times the 10X multiplier could be hit during the promotional period.
- If the 10X multiplier is not selected during the eight Powerball drawings beginning March 4, the promotion will continue into April and until the multiplier “10” is selected (after which time the promotion will end).
- If the multiplier “10” is selected, all prizes (except the jackpot) for winning Powerball tickets for that night’s drawing will be increased by 10 times their original amounts.
“Power Play is already a popular choice among players in Oklahoma. We have every reason to believe this promotion will generate tremendous additional interest in the game over the next month,” said Jim Scroggins, executive director of the Oklahoma Lottery. “Just last Saturday, for example, thirty-two percent of our players participated in this option, placing us third in Power Play sales out of the 30 Powerball jurisdictions. Since our launch in mid-January, more than a quarter of our players have regularly opted for the Power Play feature.”
Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. (CST) and are telecast live on the lottery’s drawing stations – KOKH-Fox and KOCB-WB in Oklahoma City, and on KWBT-WB in Tulsa. Results are also available immediately after each drawing on the lottery’s official website at www.lottery.ok.gov and are distributed to the media for television and radio broadcast as well as printed daily in newspapers throughout the state.
Players can purchase Powerball tickets – and the optional Power Play multiplying feature – at lottery-contracted retail locations throughout the state until 7:59 p.m. (CST) on the night of the drawing.
