WOODWARD COUPLE WINS TOP PRIZE PLAYING ACES HIGH SCRATCHER
Oklahoma City (May 26, 2009) – Krystal and Cody Newman walked around for weeks not knowing they had $12,000 within their grasp. The couple purchased a winning Aces High Scratcher on April 24 but didn’t scratch the ticket until recently. The two had been traveling to California and had purchased some tickets to play on the trip.
“Krystal was tired of scratching tickets so she put the remaining ones in my computer bag,” Cody said. “We were out running errands on Saturday when she remembered the tickets were in my bag. At first she thought she had won $12 and had to have her daughter double check to confirm it was $12,000.”
Cody had been carrying the winning ticket in his bag for nearly five weeks and traveled through three states.
“At one point I was cleaning and I almost threw them away,” he said.
The two purchased their winning ticket at their favorite convenience store, Sweet Enterprise at 110 Williams Ave. in Woodward. They plan to put their new cash into a savings account.
“It’s just a nice relief to have extra money,” Krystal said, who plays knowing the proceeds help support Oklahoma education. “I think it’s great and a good cause.”
Cody and Krystal try to play the Lottery once a week and rotate among several games including Powerball, Hot Lotto and Scratchers. But Cody has some advice for everyone as he continues to play.
“Don’t carry your tickets around for five weeks before you scratch them,” he said. “You never know when you will have a winner.”
